Mark C. Higgins - Investigator

Mark was born in a small town in Kentucky into a military family. His father, George,  was a decorated military officer who fought for his country during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Because of his father's position, Mark had the opportunity to travel the world as a young adult and spent a majority of his life overseas,  graduating from High School in Mannheim Germany. The ceremony was held in the historical 13th century Worms Cathedral (Wormser Dom).  Living abroad also gave him the opportunity to visit other countries, including such places as Austria, Denmark, Holland, France, Spain and nearly every major city throughout Europe.  The experiences that Mark remembers most are seeing the Berlin Wall, walking the beaches of Normandy, France (site of the D-day Invasion), touring Neuschwanstein Castle and,  especially, visiting the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Dachau.  The energy he felt there is something he will never forget.

Mark experienced the loss of his mother at a very early age and then both his father and stepmother within a 3 month period in 1990. He thinks these tragic events have helped him to develop sensitivity to spirit activity, which can actually help when investigating.  "I do think our loved ones come back to visit," Mark says.  "They watch over us. They are, in my opinion, our angels.”

In 2006, Mark had an encounter with what he believed to be a ghost or a shadow person. Combining that event with his earlier life experiences helped set the stage for his journey into investigating the other side.  After his encounter, Mark had questions: "Who or what was that? What do they want?  Why are they here?”   From that point on, he began investigating reported haunted locations in hopes that he would one day find answers to his questions.   Mark joined "The R.I.P. Files" team in 2010 and he is grateful to be part of such a diverse group of people with such different backgrounds, all of whom are devoted to learning everything they can about the mysteries of the afterlife.

Mark currently resides in Charlottesville, Virginia with his wife, two sons, and two cats.  In his spare time, he enjoys working out, going to the movies, and spending time with his family.  He also has a Black Belt in Karate and has had several of his poems published.
